At The Sun - 'Breathe EP'

Words by Charles Patterson
For relative newcomers to the scene, London heavy rockers At The Sun are full of gusto. Off the back of an EP launch just a week ago, their Twitter feed shows how keen they are to get their name out there and establish themselves as a force in new British rock. And with good reason – they have bags of potential and that is highlighted on every track on the EP.

Opener Breathe is heavy, guitar-driven rock from the get-go. The vocals are strong and the guitar solos are epic. Walk On Over is arguably the best track on the EP; a raunchy, sleazy rock anthem that deserves some national airplay.

The second half of the EP is more of the same – Devil In Your Eyes is solid and carries the sound well. After this release you’ll certainly know what to expect from At The Sun. Final track Indestructible is a little slower and at 5:11 is the longest. It’s a nice twist to end with something slightly different but ultimately the band have nailed their colours firmly to the mast of fast and furious, heavy rock.

This is no bad thing certainly and each one of these tracks played as a standalone is fantastic. Put together on a 4-track release though, there’s a danger that it sounds a little too similar from one track to another. Nonetheless, a good debut from the guys and it looks like we could be seeing a lot more of them in the not so distant future.
