The Montgomerys - Mr. Wolf's Bristol, 27/05/16

A trip to quirky Bristol bar Mr. Wolf’s is always a unique experience and judging by the rock ‘n’ roll revellers filing through the door, this evening won't disappoint.

Suitable entertainment tonight is provided by Bristol's own The Montgomerys. Coming from such a musically diverse city, they should be proud to have these guys. Having recently released their album 'Alligator Joyride' and playing Grillstock festival amid trucker-capped punters, bottles of bud and Cajun-spiced smoke filling the air, they bring a juicy slice of (West) country rock to many eager audiences.

Starting off with the energetic ‘First Train Outta Here’; a pure hit of Deep South melodies and frenetic guitar, people swiftly gather from the bar to front and centre as if dragged by their ears.

With songs like ‘Whiskey River’ and ‘Drinking Beer And Watching TV’, you kind of know what you’re going to get. It's a country-rock lovers’ dream and on a night like this, it’s what you want to hear.

Later, things slow down while the lyrics contemplate how things 'could be worse' and you're transported to a porch in Mississippi at moonlight. The crowd are deep in a united sing-along daydream when things vamp up again with a heady mix of aggressive strums, marching drums and impressive riffs, backed up with harmonic vocals and stomping bass.

This genre of rock is set in its ways and The Montgomerys do it total justice. Find a spot, grab a jack 'n' coke and let your head be filled with unadulterated, down 'n' dirty, proper country rock 'n' roll.
