A welcoming crowd greeted Hugh Cornwell at The Venue in Derby to support the promo of his latest solo album Moments of Madness, released in October this year. A buzz is rippling across the crowd as the former Stranglers frontman and his band make their way to the stage, weaving their way through the people.

The set was split into two sections with the first being solo highlights, showcasing the multi-talented musician, and then a pleasing selection of songs from the Stranglers.

The rhythm section played with a tight ferocity, laying the foundations for a great performance and allowing Hugh to focus on delivering those distinctive punchy vocals and guitar riffs.  The solo songs at times guided you back in time to the punk and mod eras, capturing a musical flavour where songs were delivered with confidence and attitude. Highlights included Moments of Madness and Stuck in Daily Mail Land.

The Stranglers section of the show is encouraging an increased crowd volume and dancing among the adoring fans, with some even taking to po-going through their favourite tracks.  Highlights here included Lasagna and Mothra which were extremely well received from the expectant crowd.

Tonight a small venue totally came alive to the sound of a punk era hero.
