Doesn’t it feel great to be back in the saddle of going to gigs? Even if it does start with queuing outside in minus temperatures. But, that’s how this evening at Bristol’s SWX is starting and just shows what a huge following the Glenn Hughes-fronted Dead Daisies has (he is the voice of rock after all).

After thawing out and grabbing a drink, the crowd congregate for first band, FM, who still sound as great as ever. Giving the crowd treats such as Bad Luck Finding a Lover and Tough It Out, Steve Overland’s voice is on form. And Merv Goldsworthy on that six-string Gibson just wants to let rip.

Up next is Graham Bonnet and it’s a pleasure to see he is still performing at age 74. Looking a little more frail than the last time he played in the city (and he did forget the words to the start of Night Games) but he laughs it off and the crowd is lapping it up. Don’t forget how many hits the guy has, some of which are in this set, including Rainbow’s Since You’ve Been Gone which is a delight to see.

Then to the main event, the Dead Daisies. They command the stage with ease, confident that each song sounds like a classic and will rock each and every member of the delighted audience. You can’t go wrong with Glenn at the helm, Brian Tichy back on drums and founding member David Lowy and the legend that is Doug Aldrich on the guitars.

It’s humbling to see how interactive the guys are with the audience and you can tell they are just as grateful to be performing as they public are to see them. Highlights include Bustle and Flow , Hypnotize Yourself, their excellent version of Midnight Moses and a riveting rendition of Creedence’s Fortunate Son.
