The very busy Iron Maiden are opening up their month-long UK tour before heading to the States in Nottingham tonight, with Shinedown in support. The venue is buzzing from the queue to enter all the way through to the hard-core fans already on the barrier.
The lights dim and Shinedown begin on what could be a tough gig, opening for such a huge act.
They launch into hit Adrenaline and immediately begin winning over a potentially biased crowd. The band pull together and rise like a phoenix to this challenge with plenty of crowd engagement from Lead Vocalist Brent Smith. By the third song Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom) the majority of the audience have got their hands in the air, moving as one and chanting out the chorus. Further into the set, Brent takes the plunge; he parts the crowd like a sea and jumps into the audience, getting everyone bouncing along.
A set well constructed to engage and magnify the exceptional talent of the band, winning over new fans from a partisan crowd.
Iron Maiden announces there imminent arrival with the UFO classic Doctor Doctor and then a lengthy video entry before Bruce and the band bounce onto the stage. A solid and well executed set which has been put together with the main intention of promoting the new album Book of Souls. Classic era Maiden tracks occupy the balance of the set-list and are received by the crowd with open arms and loud voices. Highlights for the night were the mighty Trooper, Fear of the Dark and the Number of the Beast. Maiden have arrived home.
