Unruly Child - 'Can't Go Home'

Words by Emma Reynolds

If you’re looking for that new album that gives nostalgic thoughts of driving around in your best friend’s car, banging your shoes on the dashboard and thinking how perfect life was in that moment, then Unruly Child’s new album Can’t Go Home is the one for you this spring.

Combining teen angst with a calm and melodic take on heartbreak, especially in Four Eleven singing "I didn’t know it could hurt so good…” the album has an American 90s feel, mainly influenced by lead vocalist Marcie Free.

There’s a running theme of love, heartbreak and solutions of ‘getting over it’; a truly tragic listen if you’re on the receiving end of these things. The last track Someday, Somehow gives positive vibes and how the protagonist of the song will move on from their pain and finally “get it right…. Something a great deal can relate to.

Get On Top reflects smoky, dark rhythms, a sexy slow piece that really highlights how diverse the band can be in terms of representing different emotions.

There’s talk of Unruly Child planning to tour, so we may see them on the road soon. Look out for this upcoming, diverse album with more recommend tracks such as She Can’t Go Home, See If She Floats, and Sunlit Sky.
