Digital Criminals - 'Dark Days'

Words by Adrian Ball.

Post-apocalyptic with a Mad Max appearance comes to mind at first impressions of South Wales band Digital Criminals.

The leather clad, war painted female-fronted foursome's debut EP ‘Dark Days’ opens with track Before it goes any further. Chants kick it off followed swiftly with a hard hitting guitar riff.  The vocals have a similar style to a young, solo Gwen Stefani but with much heavier and sharper guitars.

‘Dark Days’ lulls you into thinking this is going to be a slow song, before launching into another attack on the senses.  The verse builds into an anthemic chorus and is surrounded by a catchy riff that continuously rocks throughout.

‘Where Is Your God’ is a stand out track with a grungy feel.  At this point you know what Digital Criminals are capable of delivering and this one really catches you off guard.  Reminiscent of the first Warrior Soul album; asking deep questions, making you think and all wrapped up in an electro-rock style.

‘Sink Down Low’ delivers a real surprise, adding in numerous elements from the previous tracks such as the chorus anthems, matched with heavy guitar work and really shows how this banddeliver.  Opening with a monster riff and heavier drumming than previous tracks, while the vocals show a wider range of styles, it all holds together extremely well.

It’s well worth making time to check out this band.
