Inglorious has been involved in a whirlwind of great publicity and an outpouring of appreciation from both press and fans recently, proven by their successful string of dates supporting The Winery Dogs on their UK tour this year, followed by the first full show of their own at the Islington Assembly Hall.
There’s a buzz in the venue even before the band come on stage; it's the excitement of knowing that you’re about to share the moment when the ‘future of British rock’ complete their premier full-length gig and you were lucky enough to see it.
With support from guitarist singer-songwriter Ali Clinton and rock band Curran, it’s then the turn of the boys. Adopting their rock star stances, they ease into the set with ‘Until I Die’, which was made for an opening song. It blasts the cobwebs from the rafters and warms the crowd to melting point with Nathan James’ glass shattering range and a thunderous, rhythmic skin-battering from Phil Beaver (drums).
The pace is kept high with radio-favourite ‘Breakaway’, which is exhausting to watch, let alone perform. But never missing a beat, the energy is kept up.
A version of Rainbow’s ‘I Surrender’ provides a well-received interlude with a feel of united rock appreciation filling the air, which leads into the seductively smooth ‘High Flying Gypsy’ slowing things down a touch.
As a group performing together, they have the magic, that’s been proven many times before, for longevity. Andreas Eriksson (guitar) hat donned and confidence sky-high has no problem showing his riffing skills are a match for their obvious influences in Whitesnake and Deep Purple, with some solid support from Wil Taylor (guitar) and Colin Parkinson (bass), whose chemistry together forms part of the charm, with the obvious skill to back it up.
They continue with songs from their debut album, from the beautifully performed ‘Bleed For You’, one of the emotive highlights of the set, to their current single ‘Unaware’ and a Toto cover (and who doesn’t love a Toto cover?) of ‘Goodbye Girl’. And perfectly harmonised it is too.
With Nathan describing this as ‘the best night of my life’, it’s endearing to watch this band grow with every performance and appreciate every second as they do.
