It’s the hottest day in the UK. Ever recorded. Looks like Nashville native Lauren Alaina has brought her hometown climate to Hy-Brasil Music Club in Bristol tonight.
The place is humid, sweaty and small, but totally packed with an eager crowd. Young and old are (some literally) jumping around in excited anticipation.
After a beautiful support slot from English Hollyoaks actress come singer-songwriter Twinnie, Lauren Alaina makes her way to the stage via a parting of the seas in the crowd; it’s the only way. She instantly ignites with the kind of confidence that only comes from Ladies in the 90’s (get it?); girl power.
Her audience interaction is incredible, ranging from asking a young girl to join her onstage within minutes, grabbing a petrified young chap from the third row to ‘twerk’ and dedicating her song Three to a star-struck nine and eleven-year-old, making for a moment they won’t forget.
The short, one-hour set is laced with stories of a hard home life and celebrating a crazy family. This led nicely into I’m Doing Fine – a therapeutic track about the situation and a goose-bump-inducing moment of the evening.
What Ifs, the track she recorded with Kane Brown was performed, after telling us they went to school together and both ended up becoming Nashville recording artists, plus the well-known Don’t Even Know My Last Name and her first number one hit Road Less Traveled.
With a few covers from her inspirations like Shania, Whitney, Britney and Beyonce (which is allowing her to show the room she can more than hold her own next to them in the vocals department) the night is one to make you smile from ear to ear.
We have to say thanks to artists like this for bringing a little piece of Nashville to the UK and giving audiences a chance to feel the beating heart of what it is to sing country.
