Words by Adrian Ball
Manchester based band Room 1985 are a preparing to unleash to the world their second album The Bliss next month. Formed in 2016 by Chris Crysand (guitars / synth) and joined by John Hulse (drums), the duo set about creating a rock 'n' roll band with electronic roots. During recording sessions for this album, Sam Stone (bass / vocals) joined.
Their musical influences come from the far corners of the musical galaxy; you can't pigeon-hole these guys and they are set to light up your speakers with this concept album. Prepare for take-off to the stratosphere...
The album is strong in style from the synth / electronic era, mixing and swirling together with heavy beats and raunchy guitars like an experiment of monster proportions.
The whole album is like a magic eye picture, the closer you get to the music the clearer it becomes and the more intently you listen. An exquisite and haunting dialogue is overlaid, taking you by the hand and guiding you on a journey of psychedelia.
It's delivered beautifully and keeps you glued to the speakers from start to finish. The heavy guitar work and solos are a reminder this is not just an electronic album but also has true rock influences, adding up to a thoroughly entertaining and engaging album.
It has been constructed in a way that keeps you wanting more and leaving you in no doubt that this band has a great future.
