Words by Adrian Ball
Founded in 2014, Ammunition is the collaboration of song-writing duo Age Sten Nilsen (Wig Wam) and Erik Martensson (W.E.T, Eclipse and Nordic Union).
The new, self-titled release follows on from their highly acclaimed debut Shanghaied, released independently in 2015.
Musically, Ammunition is closely aligned to the trademark sound of Wig Wam but rougher around the edges and brought up to date.
This is a glorious, full colour kaleidoscope of hooks, riffs and rock fuelled melodies. The delivery is smooth and silky throughout, throwing you back to an age when hair metal and AOR ruled the world from the LA strip.
The vocals are presented cleanly and uncluttered, adding a touch of quality that makes for some easy listening. The guitars are plentiful, with delectable hooks and solos that build the songs into beautifully crafted masterpieces. The backbone is equal in quality, with bass and drums delivered elegantly alongside the tone.
Highlights are a-plenty from the rock ‘n’ roll strutting of Caveman with its addictive beat and shining vocals, to the sing-a-long anthem of Wrecking Crew which made it through to the Norwegian Eurovision grand final.
This album must be placed on your shopping list with a matter of urgency. Do it, do it now and don’t miss out on this stunning collection of songs.
