Jeff Scott Soto’s new album Retribution shows a return to a 15 year old partnership with Frontiers Music. Having sung for Yngwie Malmsteen, Talisman, WET and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Jeff continues to show how much of a well-respected and talented vocalist.
His illustrious career has seen him deliver mesmerising vocals laden with hard rock riffs. The style of this album captures snippets of his varied past with guitar work reminiscent of his early days with Yngwie.
High energy rock is immediately delivered via grungy riffs on the opening and title track Retribution. Sit up and take notice as Jeff Scott Soto is back and ready to rock.
The intensity doesn’t fade, although the pace does slow to a melodic meander on the outstanding track Reign again. Vocals, guitar and drums blend together seamlessly, showing what can only be described as an enviable amount of talent from all members of the band.
The sharp delivery shines brightly throughout. Balled Feels Like Forever is the calm before the storm, ascending to high energy tracks Breakout and Dedicate To You before ending on another highlight Autum.
Here is a vocal display of magnificent proportions, whether on the harder edged tracks or hypnotizing ballads, the diversity is stunning.
