A full-on night of rock awaits Sheffield tonight with bands spanning from blues-influenced to straight to the point classic rock.
It’s great to see headliners Black Star Riders supporting new talent and taking them out on the road and first up are Dirty Thrills. They’re launching into their bluesy, classic rock sound and immediately getting a positive crowd response. The band gel well together and have the audience in the palm of their hand. And deservedly so judging by their success of late and it’s only getting better for them.
Tax the Heat is next and they’re bringing a touch of suave to a primed and ready audience. Here’s a tightly knit band that are on form, delivering a powerful, swagger-filled set. Alex Veale (singer) shows off monster riffs matched with a mighty vocal performance. With a new album on the way, these are definitely ones to watch.
Blues Pills from Sweden take to the stage with huge smiles on their faces, having been greeted with cheers of appreciation. Starting with Lady In Gold the band quickly get into their stride and perform like a headliner.
When it’s time for Black Star Riders to strut their stuff, the seasoned performance veterans are showing high-level class, with a set that includes crowd pleasers Bound For Glory and Testify Or Say Goodbye and the atmosphere is buzzing. Ricky Warwick (Lead Vocals) commandingly stalks the stage, engaging with an audience that are only too eager to participate. Ex-Thin Lizzy’s Scott Gorham (Lead Guitar) is always a fan favourite and this evening is no exception; he can do no wrong. Each member of the band looks to be having a blast and the audience mirrors this by dancing and singing along. What a line-up and if you were lucky enough to witness it, what a night to remember.
