Words by Adrian Ball
Mollie Marriott has a proud heritage being the daughter of Steve Marriott (Small Faces/Humble Pie) and step-daughter of singer Joe Brown, but this hasn't daunted her.
Her debut Truth Is A Wolf sees her going it alone with this release that started its creation in Nashville, even managing to team up with Paul Weller. It contains a number of songs which reflect her life that show care and attention in the writing and delivery of this extremely well-crafted introduction.
Soulful, bluesy with a little rockin' all add to the spice here, shining like a bright new star in the sky. The whole album shows the class of an artist confident and dedicated to her profession.
Such a glittering album from start to finish with many outstanding tracks, such as the powerful vocal delivery in opener Control; a stomping track framed beautifully with great back beat and guitar, simply stunning.
Broken is based on the ending of a relationship and the effect it had personally Mollie and her daughter. Slower paced and delivered with a truly soothing vocal, allowing you to drift away in your own thoughts.
Give Me A Reason is a luxurious track with a velvety smooth delivery. Marriott’s voice is emphasised with a glorious gospel backing, adding weight and volume to create a full sound that’s absolutely gorgeous to listen to.
Catch Mollie on tour with Bad Touch later this year.
