Remember back in the day when interesting albums started with some kind of unique composition, a dramatic build up of classical strings or a distorted devil's voice? This EP from Peur brings back a sense of that.
Their latest album 'Future Architects' includes an 'intro' which brings a sense of nostalgia, and certainly creates a dramatic entrance.
They've included an instrumental ('They Have Destroyed Everything') before kicking in with 'Explosions' when we get to hear what they're really about. They have a refreshing, modern sound; radio-friendly if you must, but the versatile vocals sit happily over reverberant guitars and a showering of drum beats which makes for easy (but heavy) listening.
Remaining tracks ('It Ends Before It Starts' 'Hollow Skies') display in turn devoted and intense vocals, Muse-like guitar effects and the overall feeling of this is all a bit serious. However, you'd be happy to put this on in the car on a sunny day and it would out a smile on your face. Quite an achievement, but Peur's style pulls it off.
This EP is well produced with a crisp sound and the sense of a band that work tightly together is evident. Let's hope they'll be back with more of the same.
