Georgia Paterson - 10 Feet Tall Cardiff, 05/03/16

Welsh singer-songwriter Georgia Paterson is no stranger to her local live music scene, building a solid reputation in South Wales and releasing an EP called ‘Hear Your Voice’ in February 2015.

Tonight at Cardiff’s 10 Feet Tall, supporting Canadian duo Cherry Suede, she spends time chatting to the crowd before her set, admitting she’s a little nervous. Once she’s up on the stage with guitar in hand, you wonder why she was worried. She seems instantly at ease with the music as her tonic, no nerves showing here.

She starts with a cover of Paul Simon’s ‘Me And Julio Down By The School Yard’, grabbing peoples’ attention and getting their feet tapping.

Anecdotes in-between songs see her introducing her ‘band’, which, as she is playing alone, is her drum machine and vocal harmony pedal. Not that any enhancement is needed, she holds her own out there.

Her newest song ‘Don’t Give It Away’ shows the angelic tone to her voice that’s so easy to listen to. Plus, the qualitin her live performance is testament to her talents and it’s a pleasure to watch.

‘If You Broke My Heart’, Georgia says is inspired by a dream she had that she was being cheated on and the final song in her set is the Greg Haver produced (Manic Street Preachers, Mel C) single ‘Thought It Might Be You’, which got the BBC excitedly saying "this girl has got something special." The lyrics describe a longing for someone unattainable and the desperate feelings associated with an impossible love. Like the rest of the set, this comes across just as impassioned and sincere to the end.
