The unassuming pub that’s tonight’s venue is usually a perfect surrounding for a quiet pint and a bit of pub grub, but is now playing host to local Bedfordshire punk-rockers Initiate.

As a new band (this is their first ever gig), it’s hard to know what to expect but as they open with Blink 182’s All The Small Things, you sense things are going to get pretty raucous.
The first half consists of some classic punk-rock covers including In Too Deep by Sum 41, more Blink 182 withAliens Exist and Dammit and always a favourite American Idiot by Green Day. It’s easy to see where these guys get their influences from, and they pull off the covers with aplomb, but the set really comes alive when they start on their originals.
Medusa, Destination: Nowhere, and Rainy Days will all feature on Cavalier (due for release later this year), and all draw heavily from their punk rock influences. The EP is due to be a five-track release and by this show will be well worth buying.
For a first gig, the band pull this off stylishly, with any nerves being lost in the riffs and they have several gigs in front of bigger crowds already lined up in the coming months. If this opening night is anything to go by, their curtain call is a long, long way away.
