Single review: Oliver Shaw - ‘Her Favourite Place’

Gentleman, poet and songwriter Oliver Shaw is releasing his first single in over a year, Her Favourite Place on 17th September.

While you should still catch him playing his acoustic stuff on Instagram, and the more punk-edged splurges live in action, this one has gone a little more rock ‘n’ roll.

The tune rolls along like the countryside from a car window on a sunny day and would make a wander around Camden even more pleasant, courtesy of this local storyteller.

Melodically speaking, Oliver says this is dedicated to his mum who has been ‘a star’ to him and who loved the melody; lyrically, it speaks of  a completely free spirit, untouched by the world around them. It’s a celebration of life and an ode to remaining grateful. It’s the perfect sonic pick-me-up, bringing about a warm and fuzzy feeling that pleads to last much longer.

There’s the usual tenderness, sweet vulnerability and empathy for longing that’s usually found in Oliver’s music, with this track missing out much of the melancholy. It’s trendless in the best of ways and as ever, poetically beautiful.
