Novatines, a four-piece rock band formed in 2017, released their debut E.P Wasted Youth this month.
The band immediately made a name for themselves on the UK circuit with their anthemic, high-octane set and since have toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe on both headline and support tours, playing alongside Alabama 3, Arcane Roots, Von Hertzen Brothers, and Sweet.
Having featured in Classic Rock magazine's ‘Tracks Of The Week’ and Planet Rock magazine's ‘Ones To Watch’, their sound is a rebirth of classic British rock with influences from 90s American alternative rock and grunge.
The first single Come Alive is fast-paced and feel-good, exuding the passion and energy the band encapsulates. Five highlights strong vocals that overlay boisterous lyrics and punchy meaning, caped behind catchy as hell ‘na na na’s’ and tap-along riffs.
Wind Up is again melodic and rocks hard, with a hint of ‘70’s key-changing glam, obviously from Sweet’s Andy Scott’s production influence in the studio. This is an easy listen and will make you want more. For a young band to achieve this sound and make it their own is a much needed revelation. There’s not much out there to compare it to at the moment.
When listening to The Fear, déjà vu occurs. This is no bad thing, the track just sits in the ears like it’s been there before. You could play this E.P and feel like it’s an old friend of your collection. This song does what the band has proved in four tracks – you get story-telling lyrics, anthemic chants, impressive vocal strength and a level of heaviness that makes your face screw up a little bit.
This is an instantly loveable E.P and the perfect enticement for potential fans. Four tracks just isn’t enough.
The band is in the middle of its UK headline tour. Remaining dates are:
26.02.20 London, O2 Islington Academy2
27.02.20 Birmingham, O2 Institute3
28.02.20 Manchester, Off The Square
