It's gratifying to see Sweet playing proper rock venues, with a line-up of lead guitarist Andy Scott, drummer Bruce Bisland, guitarist Lee Small and vocalist Paul Manzi.
Tonight, with support from the Novatines, they're bringing a selection of songs direct from their catalogue of '70's hits and still doing them justice.
Perhaps slowed down a little, but still as frivolous as ever before. Rob brings the theatrical element with his strong vocal and exaggerated hand gestures, while the keyboards and effect pedals bring the fun Sweet-signature sound effects that everyone secretly hoped would be included.
There's Action, Hell Raiser, Teenage Rampage, AC/DC, Blockbuster and Ballroom Blitz; all of the songs you would expect and want to hear, and each is performed with perfection.
The group works well together, despite Andy describing the recently formed line-up as a 'work in progress', they were suprisingly phenomenal. The biggest shock of all being Andy's capability to bring the highest pitched 'ahhhhhh's to Fox on the Run. Those harmonies are something to behold - it's just brilliant.
With stories a'plenty - including one about Andy at a local guitar auction with Bernie Marsden, who revealed The Beast (his Les Paul) and declared his annoyance at Joe Bonamassa nicking it for most of his live shows.
The band still commands authority and they sound unique after all this time. Even if it's your first time watching them, you know this is a great band, you know this is special and you know they rock, hard.
