D.R Webster - 'Truth'

Words by Adrian Ball
D.R Webster, formerly of Mercury Underground, has ventured into a solo career with EP Truth that was recorded in Brazil under the watchful eye of Brazilian blues legend Andre Christovam in the world renowned Mosh Studios, using a range of epic equipment previously used by the likes of John Lennon and Pete Townsend.  So, a great starting point.
The Turning is a fast-paced blues-rock song with attitude.  The vocals split through the music with ease, blending the outstanding guitar playing and the rhythmic backbeat. The guitar solos are exquisite and add to the sheer brilliance of this upbeat rocking song.
Karmacoma is a smooth, laid-back song with a beautiful guitar riff laid over the top.  A moody feel with almost haunting vocals that remind you of numerous 80’s alternative rock bands.  This really shows off the range of styles D.R Webster writes and performs with; you can envisage the lighters (or iphones) being waved in the air when this is performed live.
Revolution Now lifts the mood and pace once more with a much greater rock feel to the whole song.  Rapid, raucous music breaks between the steady paced delivery, adding an element of intrigue, making you lean forward to focus on the nature of this musical attack.
A varied, well written and enthusiastically performed collection. If this is the first EP then bring on a full album, please.
