Kikamora - In The Henhouse

Words by Adrian Ball

Kikamora are South West outfit formed in early 2015, described as a fusion of classic hard rock and blues with screaming guitar, thick bass lines, raspy vocals and thunderous drums. Their influences include Black Sabbath and Guns n’ Roses and the latter really shows on their first official release In The Henhouse

First TrackTwist My Armstarts with a rocking riff, closely followed with a monster drum beat before the razor-like voice slices through.  This is a great opener keeping you fully engaged throughout.

Methadream slows the pace down with a continually building verse and a rip-roaring guitar solo being a highlight moment of the track.  Slowly fading at the end, it all seems to be over too quickly, so rewind and give this another listen.

Next upPest has classic rock stamped all over it.  Lots of comparisons spring to mind from Thunder to The Cult, but on first listen you can make up your own mind.  The vocals and guitar work are excellent and really well delivered.  Not forgetting the solid spine of bass and drums, which all help in making this one of the stand-out tracks.  Rock n Roll is alive and well in the South West.

Suffer unto me is another highlight.  Changes of pace keep listeners guessing and wanting more and with rasping vocals overlaid onto a mellow backgroundthis track definitely provides.

Half rats starts with a slow guitar intro, developing into a full-on, exciting rock track. The blues-rock fusion shines brightly on this song with so much going on; from superb piano and saxophone to those excelling, ripping vocals.  This is reminiscent of how The Who builds a song and holds your attention, what a way to end an EP.
